This piece of work was done as an assignment for the Video Art Lab course. It was my first serious attempt of video installation. For this time it was a constant procedure to make first the audio, but I also recorded the performance of creating the audio, then the performance became the image, but that I explain afterwards.
First I gathered lots audio cassettes, from my family, and mines too. Then I put the camera on a close shot with the interest on the cassette player. The action consists in the use of the cassettes in a frenetic way for 5 minutes and then to stay still for 10 minutes more. Then the action repeats. This cycle repeats forever as long as the installation is on.
I recorded the image with no light, this means I did the performance in pitch dark. I used the night shot mode on the camera. When I saw the native video I was very impressed with the result, I realized how strong could be the off screen actions and decided to make it look different than the image given by the night shot effect. The rest was seen at the National Museum.
